Meet Harriet West-Moore, Owner & Professional Development Coach at Moore 2 Discover Coaching & Training Services
Some careers shape more than professional expertise. They shape perspective.
After more than three decades serving within the criminal justice and human services systems, Harriet West-Moore witnessed firsthand the emotional weight that many women carry in demanding workplaces. When workplace toxicity led her to make the difficult decision to retire early, she chose to turn that experience into meaningful work that now supports other women facing similar challenges.
Today, through Moore 2 Discover Coaching & Training Services, Harriet helps women build resilience, navigate difficult workplace environments, and grow into confident leaders without sacrificing their wellbeing.
Tell us about your business.
Moore 2 Discover Coaching & Training Services provides empowerment and resilience coaching for women working in public safety, human services, and corporate environments. I support women who are navigating workplace toxicity, burnout, leadership challenges, and professional growth while helping organizations build healthier, more resilient workplaces.
What inspired you to start your business or say yes to this path?
I spent more than 30 years working within the criminal justice and human-service systems. During my final years of employment, I experienced workplace toxicity that ultimately gave me the courage to retire earlier than I had planned.
That experience became the catalyst for my business. I now combine decades of leadership experience with trauma-informed coaching to help individuals and organizations address burnout, emotional exhaustion, workplace toxicity, leadership stress, and workforce resilience.
What do you feel makes your business meaningful or unique?
Moore 2 Discover exists to support the people who dedicate their lives to caring for and serving others. Those individuals are often expected to carry tremendous responsibility while putting their own wellbeing last.
My mission is to ensure they are not overlooked and instead have the support, tools, and encouragement to thrive personally and professionally.
What's one lesson or turning point that's shaped your entrepreneurial journey?
I began my entrepreneurial journey in 2020 while still working full-time during the COVID pandemic. The defining turning point came later when I realized I could no longer continue working in an environment that was affecting my mental and emotional wellbeing.
Choosing to step away from that career and build my business full-time required faith and courage. It also allowed me to dedicate my work to helping women who are experiencing many of the same workplace challenges I once faced.
Is there a moment in your business you're especially proud of?
One of the most meaningful parts of this journey has been discovering that I wasn't alone.
As I've built my business, I've connected with countless women who have experienced workplace trauma and toxicity. Every conversation reinforces how important this work is and reminds me that creating supportive spaces for women truly matters.
What advice would you give to a woman navigating a similar path?
Know that you are not alone.
Connect with women who understand your experience. Prioritize your wellbeing throughout the process, and remember that there are people and resources available to support you. You don't have to carry everything by yourself.
Coffee, tea, or smoothies—and what's your go-to order?
I enjoy all three, but tea is always my first choice.
What song instantly lifts your mood or makes you feel like yourself again?
Anything with uplifting African rhythms. I also enjoy lounge music, contemporary jazz, and classic R&B.
How do you start your mornings?
Before I begin working, I spend about 15 minutes listening to upbeat music. It's a simple ritual that helps me begin the day with positive energy before opening my laptop.
A book, podcast, or quote that's impacted you recently?
I enjoy podcasts and audiobooks, but one book that continues to inspire me is African-American Women in History. I also deeply admire Ida B. Wells and the legacy she created through courage and perseverance.
What does success currently look like to you?
Success means connecting and building meaningful relationships with like-minded women who are committed to personal and professional growth.
What's one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
Although I'm naturally an introvert, I've created and host three different podcasts.
Is there a current offer, program, or service you'd like to feature?
My signature professional development workshop, Thriving Beyond Toxicity, is available both virtually and in person. The workshop helps professionals recognize workplace toxicity, strengthen resilience, and develop healthier leadership practices.
Are there any upcoming launches, events, or milestones you'd like to share?
I'm currently developing a virtual webinar focused on workplace toxicity, along with a continuing education course that will provide CEU accreditation for licensed professionals who require ongoing professional development.
